Running New England
Not every expedition has to be thousands of miles long. In between our bigger trips together, we kept finding new ways and new states for Shan to cross on foot — including two north-to-south runs through Vermont and New Hampshire. Different routes and a lot fewer days on the road, but very much part of the same continuing adventure.
VERMONT
June 23 - 26, 2023 · Route 100 · 4 days · ~200 miles

After talking about her own “200-on-100” rides through Vermont, Josh started wondering whether anyone had ever run it. That was apparently all the encouragement Shan needed. It also turned into a fun little training run ahead of the Pacific Coast trip that we were planning that Fall.
In June 2023, he attempted a 200-on-100 FKT, following Route 100 through the length of Vermont. Roughly 200 miles and four days later, Vermont became the 26th state Shan had run through.
NEW HAMPSHIRE
Aug 9 - 12, 2024 · Canada to MA · 4 days · ~200 miles

Josh was recovering from a broken tibia in 2024, and we really needed to get out of the house. So naturally, we came up with another “fun run” — crossing New Hampshire from the Canadian border to Massachusetts. Run Free or Die!
We started in a chilly downpour, had to take a few detours due to overgrown trails on Day 1. Days 2-4 turned hot — very hot — as Shan kept making his way south. It was fun to see new parts of NH, and it felt great to be out exploring again.
